Canada Luxury Holidays
Canada is a relaxing and tranquil holiday destination with miles upon miles of varied lush green natural wilderness to explore and experience. Made up of ten provinces and two territories with the sparkling Pacific waters to the west , the rugged, untamed waters of the Atlantic to the east and picturesque woodlands and mountains hemmed between, Canada has something to offer everyone.
It’s the ideal holiday destination for active, energetic people who enjoy the splendour of nature and the great outdoors. In British Columbia, the region that is home to cities such as Vancouver and the capital of Victoria, there is a backdrop of natural exquisite beauty including the towering thousand-year old cedars and the soft powdery snow and the rugged points of the Rocky Mountains. Head to Vancouver Island to view magnificent old-growth forests and observe fascinating pods of whales, take a cruise up the Inside Passage, a spectacular journey past rocky shorelines and lush rainforest or drive through the exquisite vineyards of Okanagan Wine Country, stopping to taste a vintage or two!
Vancouver, the largest city in British Columbia is the cosmopolitan and cultural centre of the region where variety is the key. Here you can ski, hike and play golf all in one day! A visit to Stanley Park is a must, where you can stroll or cycle around a paved 10-km loop while soaking up the magnificent mountain, ocean, forest and city views which surround you. For a more arial panorama, take the 100-passenger tram up Grouse Mountain, or if you’re feeling more energetic you can hike via “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster”, Grouse Grind. Combine all this with fine dinning in some fantastic restaurants and the beautiful architectural sights that the city buildings have to offer and you have the perfect city to explore.
CANADIAN CURIOSITY
By Sarah Smith
A trip to Canada is much more than you would ever expect it to be!
When I was told my next trip was going to be to Canada my first reaction was to pack my thermals, so you can imagine my pure delight when I arrived in a sunny Vancouver that was basking in 70ºC temperatures. It was mid-June and contrary to what you may think, Vancouver has a reasonably temperate climate, warm and sunny in the summer and relatively mild in the winter.
Geography it’s surrounded by water on one side and by mountains on the others, ensuring activities here are bountiful, with many of Vancouver’s residents heading up the mountains for a few hours on the piste after work in the winter. To be honest, this laid back city really does offer the best of all worlds. I found it to be a very clean and at times actually forgot I was in a city. Places like Stanely Park a little peninsular crammed with forest and wildlife provides the cities inhabitants with a fantastic slice of the wilderness on their doorstep – perfect for Sunday morning bike rides.
A trip out onto the water, either by boat or as we did by float plane, will transport you into yet another world. Out there you can find some of the most amazing wildlife including Seals and of course Whales, which majestically make their way through the water only minutes from the cities bright lights.
From my base in the city, the awe-inspiring testimonial to modern architecture that is the Shangri-La Hotel, I also did all the things you want to when on a city break, like shop and eat in amazing restaurants. Actually the hotels own hotel “Market Restaurant” was amazing and I’m reliably informed that guests actually book a room at the hotel, just to secure a table. (Tables can be booked by people not staying at the hotel but availability is often limited)
Foodies will love this city! Another amazing find was the restaurant “Raincity Grill”, here all the food comes from within 100 miles of the city, making it both eco friendly and delicious. On Saturday the piece de-resistance
