Fortified by the Dutch who ruled Sri Lanka in the 17th and 18th centuries, Galle, a world heritage centre still retains an air of old Holland. Visit the Dutch churches and monuments and of course the fort and ramparts.
Located just round the island’s southern tip lies the fishing port of Tangalle. This quiet upcoming area boasts great beaches, stunning reefs and sunset walks.
Residing 1,890 metres above sea level, tranquil Nuwara Eliya is renowned for its perennial spring-like climate and carpets of lush green tea. A visit to a tea estate and factory to sample some of the renowned Ceylon tea is definitely one of Sri Lanka’s must dos.
