Introduction to Shamwari Game Reserve
Introduction
Shamwari, situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, is one of the few malaria-free game
reserves. With five eco-systems and an enormous conservation effort, it enables the reserve
to host an incredible variety of animals and birds. The range of animals to be found here is
uncommon elsewhere - more than 18 antelope species and over 250 bird species are documented.
Lobengula Lodge boasts a true five star safari experience. All five suites are en suite, with air
conditioning and under floor heating, whilst the Chief Suite boasts a private lounge and fireplace
along with a private plunge pool. After a game drive, relax in the wellness centre, take a swim or
enjoy a drink at the pool bar or from the extensive wine cellar.
Eagles’ Crag Lodge sleeps 18 guests in nine detached Junior Suites. Constructed with local rock
in an African thatch style, it blends beautifully with its environment. Plunge pools on private
decks, outdoor boma dinners, a wellness centre and a large lounge with fireplace are all featured.
Long Lee Manor provides further excellent accommodation and a splendidly restored Edwardian
Manor House, with a restaurant, bar and lounge and two swimming pools, while Riverdene Lodge welcomes families.
Traditional African cooking complemented by fine South African wines can be enjoyed at all
the lodges as can stunning vistas from all dining areas.
