ITC Giving - South Africa
Education/Community Project, Port Elizabeth
Our projects, based in the townships of Port Elizabeth, aim to develop new learning experiences and to introduce township
children to a wider experience of the world through education. You will learn about the cultural, social and economic context of
education in the townships from local experts and engage with preschools and primary schools in the most disadvantaged but vibrant
communities in South Africa.
Location
On South Africa’s south-eastern coast, Port Elizabeth is the hub of the region now known as ‘Nelson Mandela Bay’, with a rich history in South Africa’s 20th century
emergence from apartheid.
The Project
Our inspirational local partner is Paul Miedema – a passionate man with a manifest commitment to his local communities. Paul has been working closely
with township communities since 1997, expanding his work to a full volunteer programme, with education and wealth creation as a particular focus.
The broad aims of these projects are to support education through a multifaceted approach to develop new learning experiences and to introduce township children
to a wider experience of the world.
How will you give a little and gain a lot?
• Do something worthwhile – rest assured that your short time with the projects will make a difference and your money will be used sustainably.
• Make a difference to the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children in South Africa.
• Learn about the cultural, social and economic context of growing up and gaining an education in the townships of South Africa from experts and local people.
• Share the challenges and the joys of building post-apartheid South Africa.
• Understand the work of an internationally-recognised grass roots charity from its founder.
