Post-Tsunami Community Development/ Women and Children Project, Khao Lak
The objective of this tour, based in
Khao Lak, is to give you real insight into the work being done by Andaman
Discoveries, their work in post-Tsunami Thailand and how the focus has changed from disaster relief to self-reliance.
You will explore the connections between children’s education, empowerment of disadvantaged communities
and responsible tourism. You will stay in one of the most pristine beach locations in Thailand.

The Project
The objective of this tour is to give you real insight into the work being done by Andaman Discoveries, their work in post
Tsunami Thailand and how the focus has changed from disaster relief to self-reliance. Each guest has a range of unique skills
and experiences; with this in mind your programme will be designed to create a mutually worthwhile and fulfilling experience.
How will you give a little and gain a lot?
• Learn from experts about the context of development work in Thailand since the Tsunami and the challenges and the
successes of income generation programmes.
• Explore the connections between children’s education, empowerment of disadvantaged communities, and responsible tourism.
• Give deprived children the chance for a fun excursion and enjoy it with them.
• Gain an understanding of the impoverishment and difficult living conditions for displaced communities.
• Stay in one of the most pristine beach locations in Thailand.
• Do something worthwhile; rest assured that your short time with the projects will make a difference and your money
will be used sustainably.
• Work with disadvantaged women and children.
Programme and Itinerary
Every one of you has a range of unique skills and experiences. Your programme and time with the project will be designed to create a
mutually worthwhile and fulfilling experience, and you will gain real insight and knowledge of the project.
Day 1: Meet your expert guide; learn about the move from relief to self-reliance from disaster to development; visit
Tsunami-impacted areas.
Day 2: Visit and gain an understanding of the projects with which you will work for the next few days, working with
disadvantaged children or at a women’s centre and including teaching, mentoring/training and income
generation initiatives. Share a meal with the children at the orphanage
Days 3 & 4: Continue the work started yesterday, ending the day with a fun excursion with the children.
Day 5: Visit a village community. Explore their life and environment, concluding with an opportunity for you to discuss all you
have seen with your hosts.

All tours in the ITC Giving Programme are available throughout the year, subject only to local religious festivals and holidays
and to school term dates.
